We are seeking a Casual Education Assistant to join our team at School District #57 (Prince George). As a Casual Education Assistant, you will provide support to students with exceptional needs in a school setting.
Key Responsibilities- Assist students with specific drill and practice activities in academic and behavioral domains according to an education plan.
- Monitor and assist students during unstructured time, such as recess, lunch hour, and between classes.
- Perform public health level 1 non-child specific health procedures, such as daily hygiene, toileting, feeding, positioning, and transferring.
- Assist students in gaining independence in specific life skills and accompany them to community access activities.
- Participate in conferences with parents and others as directed, and observe students and record their observations.
- Administer medication to students as assigned by an administrator, and monitor student behavior inside the school and on the grounds.
- Report safety, unusual behavior, and discipline concerns to the principal or designate, and resolve minor disagreements where possible.
- Grade twelve education.
- Six college/university level courses related to learning/behavioral issues in children or youth.
- One year of related experience with children or youth with exceptional needs in a school, hospital, or recognized community agency.
- Ability to perform child-specific behavior management techniques, and operate or learn to operate school and/or personalized equipment.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing in the language of instruction in or about the school.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and perform duties in compliance with safety regulations.
The successful candidate will be required to work in a school setting, and may be required to work outside in inclement weather. They will also be required to arrange, distribute, and collect activity materials and equipment, and assist in organizing and conducting school activities.
