Licensed Practical Nurse

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a vital member of the healthcare team at the Health Sciences Centre, providing high-quality patient care and support to patients and families. As a LPN, you will work under the general supervision of the Manager of Patient Care to deliver professional nursing services, administer prescribed medical treatments, and collaborate with the healthcare team to coordinate patient care and discharge.
Key Responsibilities- Provide independent nursing services to designated patients, including vital sign monitoring, wound care, and medication administration.
- Administer prescribed medical treatments, such as injections and infusions, as ordered by physicians.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team, including physicians, registered nurses, and other healthcare professionals, to coordinate patient care and discharge.
- Participate in the development and implementation of patient care plans, including setting goals and objectives for patient care.
- Conduct patient assessments, including physical and emotional assessments, to identify patient needs and develop plans to meet those needs.
- Provide education and support to patients and families, including teaching patients about their medications, treatments, and self-care.
- Document patient information, including vital signs, medications, and treatment plans, in a timely and accurate manner.
- Graduate of an approved Licensed Practical Nursing Education program.
- Current certification in IV Therapy and IV Medication Administration.
- Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CLPNM).
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the applicable policy.
- Knowledge of the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Licensed Practical Nurses and the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba Code of Ethics for Licensed Practical Nurses.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing multiple tasks and responsibilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information with discretion.
- Experience working in a healthcare setting, preferably in a clinical area.
- Knowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions, and values, with the ability to work effectively with Indigenous patients and families.
- Ability to speak an Indigenous language, with the ability to communicate effectively with Indigenous patients and families.
The LPN will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with frequent interruptions and changing priorities. The LPN will be required to stand for long periods, lift patients, and perform other physical tasks as required. The LPN will also be required to work rotating shifts, including evenings, nights, and weekends.
