Role Overview

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in our mission to enhance the security and efficiency of the embedded finance ecosystem through advanced AI and machine learning solutions. Your contributions will be vital in developing, implementing, and maintaining machine learning systems that tackle critical challenges in the payment industry, including fraud detection, transaction enrichment, dispute resolution, anti-money laundering (AML), and sanction screening.

Your Responsibilities

  • Model Development and Implementation:
    • Construct and sustain the machine learning infrastructure to facilitate the development, training, evaluation, deployment, and operation of ML models.
    • Enhance the model development lifecycle to increase productivity and innovation.
    • Utilize your software development skills to address complex infrastructure and architectural challenges.
    • Lead engineering teams in executing ML projects from technical design to deployment.
    • Collaborate with various teams to set expectations, gather feedback, and communicate results effectively.
  • Collaboration and Strategy:
    • Work closely with product teams to align business needs with technical solutions.
    • Engage in strategic discussions to promote data-driven decision-making across the organization.
    • Provide insights and recommendations based on data analysis and model outcomes.
  • Research and Innovation:
    • Stay updated on the latest advancements in machine learning and payment technologies.
    • Investigate new data sources and modeling techniques to improve existing models.
    • Initiate and lead projects that apply cutting-edge machine learning methods to address challenges in the payment sector.
  • Technical Documentation and Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance of machine learning processes with relevant regulatory and ethical standards.
    • Document the model development processes and outcomes for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Assist in preparing necessary reports and presentations for regulatory bodies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience or Master's degree with 3+ years of experience in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with cloud platforms and machine learning infrastructure (AWS, Sagemaker, Databricks, Kubernetes, Terraform, etc.).
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Python or R, with familiarity in ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Strong grasp of data structures, data modeling, software architecture, and large-scale computing systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with generative AI modeling technologies and applications.
  • Experience in scalable production model development and deployment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with natural language processing techniques for data cleansing and interpretation.
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks impacting the payment and finance sectors (e.g., GDPR, PCI-DSS).
  • Familiarity with DevOps/MLOps tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Sagemaker, MLflow) to streamline model deployment.

Compensation and Benefits

Marqeta is committed to providing a flexible work environment, allowing employees to choose their preferred working conditions. We offer competitive compensation based on various factors, including skills and experience.

The base salary range for this position is CAD $81,000 - $108,000, along with annual bonuses recognizing individual performance and company success.
