Project Overview

The Woodfibre LNG initiative is situated approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. This project encompasses the establishment and management of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the site of the former Woodfibre pulp mill, designed to have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and an annual production of around 2.1 million tons of LNG.

Position Summary

The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing safe, effective, and efficient maintenance operations within their discipline, ensuring reliable asset performance under the WLNG Maintenance Execution Business Process. This role involves managing a team of Maintenance Technicians focused on daily operations while also being accountable for short-, medium-, and long-term maintenance planning, alignment, and prioritization. The successful candidate will report directly to the Maintenance Manager and will play a crucial role in supporting the company throughout the construction and operational phases of the project.

During Construction Phase:

  • Act as the representative for the Maintenance team during construction, pre-commissioning, and commissioning, with a focus on supporting construction assurance and operational readiness while building a future maintenance team.
  • Serve as the intermediary between Project and Asset disciplines throughout the construction phase.
  • Ensure a safe and smooth startup process during the initial operational phase.

During Operational Phase:

  • Manage performance and provide coaching for the discipline work team and leads, guiding all reports to achieve personal development goals.
  • Develop comprehensive Discipline Goals Plans for the year and Individual Development Plans for all technicians, ensuring alignment with personal development targets.
  • Drive business performance to achieve outstanding results in cost management, reliability, and production efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with maintenance execution processes, focusing on CMMS work order preparation, execution, closure, and continuous improvement.
  • Clarify accountabilities for direct reports, ensuring they understand their roles and expectations, including work prioritization.
  • Implement rotation plans within trade groups to facilitate Job Competencies Profiles (JCP) signoff and promote the transfer of trade and business knowledge.
  • Collaborate with Training and HR to ensure adequate JCPs are available for craft personnel.
  • Facilitate discussions with technicians to identify barriers and opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives as part of the Maintenance Leadership Team.
  • Ensure safe and effective work execution by collaborating with teams to reinforce safe working practices and hazard identification.
  • Manage the discipline maintenance budget, including annual budget development, weekly and monthly spending reviews, and accurate forecasting.
  • Coordinate with Operations and Engineering teams to optimize costs, maintain budget adherence, and manage unexpected production incidents.
  • Interface with other departments to manage incidents and activities, ensuring a functional call-out and off-shift coverage system is in place.
  • Ensure the right personnel with the appropriate competencies are available to maintain assets effectively.
  • Oversee the performance of contractors working within the discipline.
  • Align with Operations and other discipline supervisors regarding work priorities and resource allocation.
  • Support commissioning and startup for brownfield projects.
  • Implement cross-discipline maintenance programs, including tool management and procedure development.
  • Occasionally act as relief for similar positions as required.

Qualifications:

Required Experience:

  • Engineer, Technologist, or Red Seal Journeyperson with a minimum of 10 years of maintenance experience in the Oil & Gas sector, preferably in the LNG industry.
  • Proven skills in coordinating multi-craft maintenance or projects.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems such as SAP-MM is essential, with planning and scheduling experience considered a plus.
  • Familiarity with SAP implementations for new facilities is preferred.
  • Experience in budget development and management.
  • Knowledge of Maintenance Business Processes and Systems.
  • Thorough understanding of mechanical equipment and systems, including plant pipelines, buildings, HVAC, and civil structures.
  • Ability to coordinate mechanical testing techniques in the field.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical repair procedures.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical equipment, including cryogenic applications and complex mechanical work scopes.

  • A proactive individual with a focus on mentoring and continuous improvement.
  • Experience working in large, multi-disciplinary teams in a diverse environment is advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with front-line workers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities under pressure.
  • Collaborative team player.
  • Proficiency with various computer programs.
  • A valid driver's license and passport are required.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
