Project Overview

The Woodfibre LNG initiative is situated approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. This project encompasses the establishment and management of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the site of the former Woodfibre pulp mill, designed to hold a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and to generate around 2.1 million tons of LNG annually.

Position Summary

The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the safe, effective, and efficient execution of maintenance tasks within their area of expertise, ensuring the reliability of assets as per the WLNG Maintenance Execution Business Process. This role involves managing a team of Maintenance Technicians focused on daily operations while also being accountable for short-, medium-, and long-term maintenance planning, alignment, and prioritization. The successful candidate will report directly to the Maintenance Manager and will play a crucial role in supporting the project through its construction and operational phases.

During the Construction Phase:

  • Act as the representative for the Maintenance team throughout construction, pre-commissioning, and commissioning, dedicating efforts to support construction assurance and operational readiness while building a future maintenance team (including recruitment support, training, and maintenance strategy reviews).
  • Serve as the communication link between Project and Asset disciplines during the construction phase.
  • Be accountable for ensuring a safe and seamless startup within their discipline during the initiation phase.

During the Operational Phase:

  • Manage performance and provide coaching for their discipline's work team and leads, assisting in achieving personal development goals.
  • Develop a comprehensive Discipline Goals Plan for the year and Individual Development Plans for all technicians within their team.
  • Ensure excellent results in their discipline concerning cost, reliability, and production.
  • Maintain compliance with maintenance execution processes, focusing on CMMS work order preparation, execution, closure, and improvement.
  • Clarify accountabilities for direct reports and ensure they understand their roles and expectations, including the assignment of work priorities.
  • Implement rotation plans within trade groups to facilitate Job Competencies Profiles (JCP) signoff and promote the transfer of trade and business knowledge.
  • Collaborate with Training and HR to ensure adequate JCP exists for craft personnel.
  • Lead engagement sessions with technicians to discuss barriers and opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in the Maintenance Leadership Team to develop cross-functional initiatives.
  • Ensure safe and effective work execution by collaborating with work teams to reinforce safe working practices and job site hazard identification.
  • Manage the discipline's maintenance budget, including developing the annual budget, conducting weekly and monthly reviews of expenditures, and preparing forecasts.
  • Coordinate with Operations and Engineering teams to minimize future costs, maintain budget adherence, and manage unexpected production incidents.
  • Interface with other departments to manage incidents and activities, ensuring a functional call-out and off-shift coverage system is in place.
  • Ensure the right personnel with the appropriate competencies are available at the right times to maintain the asset.
  • Oversee the performance of contractors working within the discipline.
  • Align with Operations and other discipline supervisors regarding work priorities and resource allocation.
  • Support commissioning and startup for brownfield projects.
  • Be responsible for implementing cross-discipline maintenance programs, including tool management and hose and flange management procedures.
  • Occasionally act as a relief for other similar positions as required.

Qualifications:

Required Experience:

  • Engineering, Technologist, or Red Seal Journeyperson credentials with a minimum of 10 years of maintenance experience in the Oil & Gas sector, preferably in the LNG industry.
  • Proven skills in coordinating multi-craft maintenance or projects.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems such as SAP-MM is essential, while familiarity with planning and scheduling is advantageous.
  • Prior exposure to SAP implementations for new facilities is preferred.
  • Experience in budget development and management.
  • Understanding of Maintenance Business Processes and Systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical equipment and systems, including plant pipelines, HVAC, and civil structures.
  • Ability to coordinate mechanical testing techniques in the field.
  • Thorough understanding of mechanical repair procedures.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical and static equipment in cryogenic applications and leading complex mechanical work scopes.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities under pressure.
  • Collaborative team player.
  • Proficiency with various computer programs.
  • A valid driver's license and passport are required.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
