Impactful Contributions

The Barrett Centre offers crisis intervention services to individuals aged 16 and older, regardless of gender identity. Our program includes 16 short-term respite beds, in-person and telephone support, information and referral services, crisis assessment, counseling, and symptom stabilization for those experiencing a mental health crisis.

  • Exhibit compassion, hospitality, and a non-judgmental attitude
  • Conduct risk and suicide assessments, employing crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
  • Develop care plans and provide crisis counseling
  • Engage in continuous monitoring and evaluation, offering individualized support
  • Facilitate community referrals, advocacy, and collaboration with other service providers
  • Participate in shared responsibilities for program operations
  • Access training and educational opportunities, co-facilitate programming and groups, and collaborate with community partners
  • Adhere to Good Shepherd's Health and Safety protocols, ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act to minimize risks to clients, staff, and property

Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of Good Shepherd, with sensitivity to issues related to mental health, addiction, poverty, homelessness, and dual diagnosis
  • Relevant post-secondary education, such as a degree in social work, nursing, or related fields
  • Preferred experience of 5 years working with adults in mental health and addiction settings
  • Previous crisis intervention experience is advantageous
  • Ability to tailor interventions to meet the needs of diverse populations
  • Fluency in a second language is beneficial
  • CPR certification or willingness to obtain certification
  • Commitment to anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices, aligned with the mission and values of Good Shepherd
  • Understanding of workplace health and safety practices and responsibilities under current legislation
  • Willingness to work twelve-hour rotating shifts and alternate weekends
