Elections Canada employs a significant number of individuals in its offices located in Gatineau and at its distribution center in Ottawa. These personnel are responsible for planning and organizing electoral events and generating the reports mandated by the Canada Elections Act.
During a general election, Elections Canada recruits additional staff who are engaged for the entire election duration, which spans a minimum of 36 days. Some of these individuals may continue in their roles for several weeks or months longer, depending on the assignments they receive. These temporary staff primarily work at Elections Canada in Gatineau, focusing on the following responsibilities: assisting returning officers; managing electoral logistics; communicating with voters; and, post-election, compiling studies that arise from the electoral event and preparing necessary reports.
