About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Commercial Underwriter to join our Property team. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in maintaining and growing our renewal book of business, analyzing risk, and placing business with our carriers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain existing broker relationships to solicit renewals and generate new business opportunities
  • Drive client satisfaction and loyalty by ensuring prompt and courteous client service to all brokers
  • Develop and maintain knowledge and understanding of company operations and procedures
  • Utilize other Burns & Wilcox Canada offices via referrals to place business and provide comprehensive solutions
  • Analyze risk and place business with our carriers, maintaining knowledge of carriers' underwriting guidelines and domestic and international markets
  • Review coverage requirements, prices, and conditions, negotiate prices, terms, and conditions, and submit quality submissions to markets
  • Provide consultation to brokers regarding differences between quotes and coverages, and ensure all renewal business is reviewed and quoted appropriately
  • Maintain carrier relationships and stay abreast of underwriting practices, maintaining licenses and certifications
  • Train, develop, and nurture assistant/associate underwriters, helping manage priorities and workload, and cultivating trust, leading by example, and maintaining an open door for team members
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 2 years of full-time underwriting experience, MGA experience preferred
  • Hold a CIP, CRM, or comparable designations or actively pursuing
  • Hold a broker license (Level 1 or 2), or can qualify for a license within 90 days
