Oromocto, New Brunswick, Canada Canadian Armed Forces | Forces armées canadiennes Full time

Position Overview

The Human Resources Support Officer plays a vital role within the military framework, delivering essential administrative and human resources assistance across various military operations.

The core responsibilities of this role include:

  1. Administration of human resources services
  2. Management of payroll and allowances
  3. Oversight of automated payroll systems and data management
  4. Maintenance and organization of personnel records

Work Environment

Human Resources Support Officers are stationed at military bases throughout Canada, aboard naval vessels, and in international locations, supporting the operations of the Royal Canadian Navy, Canadian Army, and Royal Canadian Air Force. They may also be involved in specialized units, medical organizations, recruitment offices, educational institutions, reserve units, and international missions with NATO or the United Nations.

For those who opt for a career in the Regular Force, following the completion of all necessary training, individuals will be assigned to their initial base. While there is some flexibility regarding postings, relocations may be required at various stages of their career. Conversely, joining the Primary Reserve Force allows for part-time engagement without the obligation to relocate, typically involving one night per week and some weekends, with opportunities for full-time roles.

Entry Requirements

No prior experience or specific career-related skills are necessary. Recruitment personnel can assist candidates in determining if their interests align with the qualifications for this position.

The minimum educational requirement for this role is the completion of provincial standards for Grade 10 or Secondary 4 in Quebec, including Grade 10 Applied Mathematics and Grade 10 English or French. International qualifications may also be considered.

Training Program

The initial phase of training consists of the Basic Military Qualification course (BMQ), conducted at designated military training facilities. This program equips recruits with fundamental skills and knowledge applicable across all military trades. A significant aspect of this training is to ensure that all participants meet the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) physical fitness standards. The training is rigorous yet attainable. During the early weeks of BMQ, recruits will have the opportunity to select their preferred unit for their first posting, subject to availability.

Upon successful completion of BMQ, Human Resources Support Officers will be assigned to their chosen unit, where they will engage in on-the-job training over the subsequent six months, focusing on:

  1. Processing correspondence
  2. Establishing Unit Personnel Files
  3. Creating Payroll Files
  4. Documenting Leave Records

  7. Processing Leave Requests
  8. Facilitating Rank Changes
  9. Documenting Terms of Service
  10. Managing Medals, Honors, and Awards

  1. Recruitment Administration
  2. Release Management
  3. Deployed Operations Support
  4. Compliance and Verification Procedures

As they advance in their careers, those who exhibit the necessary skills and potential may be eligible for further training opportunities, which may include:
