Your Role

Our Transmission team is seeking skilled Transmission Line Engineers to work from any Stantec office across North America.

As a seasoned transmission line engineer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering power solutions for our clients. Key Responsibilities

Technical Execution

  1. Engineer power transmission line projects from initial design through to construction.
  2. Prepare engineering and design deliverables for transmission lines, including conceptual designs, criteria documentation, line layouts, structural configurations, loading analyses, structure designs, conductor and overhead ground wire assessments, and material selections.
  3. Utilize PLS-CADD for transmission line modeling, profiling, structure spotting, and the preparation of necessary design calculations, reports, and drawings.
  4. Model, analyze, design, and optimize new or existing transmission structures using PLS-TOWER, PLS-POLE, and other finite element modeling software.
  5. Conduct route alignment and line layout studies.
  6. Prepare technical reports, project scopes, specifications, and line construction documents.
  7. Provide material quantity estimates for transmission lines.
  8. Offer engineering and technical support to field crews during construction, including site supervision.
  9. Engage in discussions with clients and contractors, coordinating with various disciplines for successful project implementation.

Qualifications

Capabilities and Credentials

  1. Proficient in PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER.
  2. Familiarity with international and North American transmission line industry standards such as IEC, IEEE, ASCE, Cigre, CSA, and NESC.
  3. Experience in developing design drawings for various transmission structure types.
  4. Knowledge of transmission line materials including structures, conductors, OPGW, insulators, and fittings.
  5. Strong understanding of project management systems.
  6. Additional beneficial capabilities include:
  7. Experience in designing foundations for transmission line structures.
  8. Experience in HV underground and submarine cable design.
  9. Ability to perform electrical studies for transmission lines.
  10. Experience with GIS mapping software.
  11. Knowledge of Canadian utility standards and design practices.

Education and Experience

  1. Degree in Structural, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
  2. Professional Engineer (P.Eng or PE) registration with any North American Engineering Association.
  3. A minimum of 10 years of experience in transmission line design and engineering within utilities, EPC, or consulting firms.
