Position Summary: The Lead Program Manager plays a crucial role in providing high-level management support to the programs department, focusing on the strategic objectives of the organization. This position emphasizes the delivery of impactful programs that engage stakeholders and foster partnerships while enhancing financial sustainability through diversified funding sources. The Lead Program Manager will lead operational management efforts, ensuring effective communication and adaptive program development that aligns with the organization’s mission and goals.
Major ResponsibilitiesStrategy and Planning
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the organization’s strategic plan and identify priorities relevant to program initiatives.
- Contribute to the strategic planning and execution processes, providing insights on program and partnership development.
- Engage in the annual partnership development strategy, confirming operational focus areas aligned with the strategic plan.
- Assist in budget development for the program team based on identified annual priorities.
Program and Proposal Development
- Identify funding opportunities from major institutional grantors that align with the organization’s strategic focus.
- Lead the proposal submission process, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with strategic priorities.
- Draft and compile proposal content, collaborating with team members and partners to ensure comprehensive submissions.
- Work with the finance team to develop and review program budgets for grant applications.
- Facilitate communication with funders regarding proposal outcomes and next steps.
- Conduct debriefs on proposal outcomes to capture lessons learned and identify actionable steps.
- Maintain organized documentation related to the proposal process.
Partnership Development and Stakeholder Relations
- Contribute to the development of partnership strategies, ensuring they are updated based on insights from previous engagements.
- Explore and pursue partnership opportunities that align with organizational priorities.
- Coordinate partnership negotiations, ensuring all relevant teams are engaged.
- Manage relationships with partners, ensuring accountability and effective communication.
- Develop strategies for partnership meetings, including preparation of materials and follow-up actions.
- Represent the organization at partner events and conferences.
Program Management – Funded Programs
- Provide leadership and coordination for all aspects of program management for funded initiatives.
- Facilitate the transition from proposal to funded program, ensuring effective implementation processes.
- Identify and address issues that may impact program success and compliance.
- Lead the preparation of high-quality program deliverables and reports.
- Ensure good governance practices are followed for partnership programs.
Thought Leadership and Knowledge Transfer
- Stay informed about trends in international development and identify opportunities for organizational learning.
- Participate in external forums to enhance the organization’s visibility and thought leadership.
- Share knowledge internally to build understanding of program impact and sector trends.
Team Development and Management
- Assist in recruiting team members and interns to support program initiatives.
- Manage team members, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Ensure effective collaboration with other departments to achieve organizational goals.
Other Responsibilities
- Contribute to the organization's mission by fulfilling additional responsibilities as required.
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., International Development, Global Health); advanced degree is an asset.
- Significant program and project management experience in multi-country initiatives.
- 5-7 years of progressive management experience in international development.
- Knowledge of global health issues, particularly in the context of women and children.
- Experience with international funders and knowledge of funding mechanisms.
- Strong writing skills for report preparation and proposal development.
- Experience in partnership negotiation and agreement development.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with donor information databases.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
The organization employs a hybrid work model, requiring flexibility in working hours to coordinate with global colleagues. Domestic and international travel may be required as part of the role.
