Position Overview

As a Public Transit Operator at Thompson Bus & Freight Ltd., you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of passengers. Your role is crucial in ensuring a smooth transit experience for all riders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Passenger Transport: Operate buses and other transit vehicles to facilitate the movement of passengers.
  • Information Provision: Offer passengers information regarding fares, schedules, and stops.
  • Fare Collection: Collect fares and accurately record all transactions.
  • Incident Reporting: Report any delays, mechanical issues, or accidents promptly.
  • Loading and Unloading: Assist in loading and unloading passengers and their belongings safely.
  • Emergency Procedures: Direct passengers during emergency evacuation situations.
  • Safety Assurance: Ensure the safe boarding of para-transit passengers.
  • Public Interaction: Engage with the public and handle inquiries effectively.
  • Documentation: Complete logbooks and reports as required.
  • Conflict Resolution: Manage difficult passenger interactions and resolve conflicts diplomatically.
  • Communication: Maintain communication with passengers, dispatchers, and fellow drivers using two-way radio systems.
  • Vehicle Inspection: Conduct pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections to oversee all vehicle aspects.
Qualifications
  • Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.
  • Licensing: Possession of a Class 2/2F/C Licence for operating buses with more than a specified number of passengers.
  • Experience: A minimum of 1 year to less than 2 years of experience as an intercity bus driver.
  • Driver's License: A valid driver's license is required.
Work Environment
  • Physical Capabilities: Attention to detail, hand-eye coordination, and the ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Personal Attributes: Strong client focus, efficient interpersonal skills, excellent oral communication, sound judgment, organizational skills, reliability, and the ability to work as part of a team.
