Successful completion of an accredited nursing program that includes a community or public health focus. A minimum of two years of recent experience (within the last three years) working with children, youth, and families, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be registered with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN. Completion of the BCCDC online Immunization Course and Exam is required, along with a certificate from a recognized institution for a College Level Post Baccalaureate course in Breastfeeding that encompasses both practical and theoretical elements. Completion of a Cultural Safety Course is also necessary. A valid BC Driver's License is required.
Skills and Abilities- Proficient in practicing nursing within a relational care model, utilizing intentional and relational practice skills to provide client-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally safe care.
- Demonstrated understanding and application of equity and social justice principles in nursing care and nurse-client relationships.
- Knowledgeable in community nursing theories, such as Parse's Theory of Nursing.
- Ability to engage actively in a practice environment supported by structured reflective practice.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Familiarity with relevant legislation, including the Public Health Act, School Act, and Infants Act.
- Competent in establishing and maintaining positive relationships with clients, colleagues, multidisciplinary teams, and community partners.
- Comprehensive understanding of the nursing process, adult education principles, health promotion, epidemiology, public health ethics, disease prevention strategies, and community development.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload effectively.
- Capability to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision as part of a team.
- Ability to apply evidence-based knowledge to promote health-enhancing behaviors among diverse populations through universal and targeted interventions.
- Flexibility, innovation, and resourcefulness in adapting to changes in the work environment.
- Proficient in operating relevant equipment and functioning in a computerized environment using various software applications.
