Position Overview

The City of Yellowknife is in search of a motivated and proactive individual to fill the role of Land Use Planning Specialist within the Planning and Development Department.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Manager of Planning and Environment, the successful candidate will collaborate with departmental and interdepartmental personnel to:

  • Review and update the status of development applications.
  • Process applications for leasing or purchasing municipal properties.
  • Draft and manage agreements related to municipal land transactions.
  • Maintain and enhance the lease and land sales database.
  • Assist in research and compilation of pertinent information regarding land issues and municipal land governance, adhering to the Land Administration By-Law, Zoning By-law, and relevant regulations.
  • Coordinate financial tracking for departmental initiatives.
  • Prepare quarterly reports on land sales and development costs.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must possess a post-secondary diploma from a recognized technical land administration or paralegal program, along with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in a legal setting. Strong administrative backgrounds may also be considered as equivalent qualifications. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of Municipal and Territorial legislation related to land administration, land-use planning, and development, as well as possess strong records management and analytical capabilities. Proficiency in the MS Office suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, is essential, while familiarity with the ESRI GIS Product Suite will be regarded as an advantage.
