About the Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a skilled Rehabilitation Assistant to join our team. As a key member of the patient care team, you will work under the direction of the Manager and supervision of the Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist to provide support and education to patients and their care partners.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing safe and proficient delivery of activities, interventions, and education assigned by therapists for patients/clients experiencing limitations in movement and daily function.
  • Checking and cleaning equipment, maintaining treatment and storage areas, and ordering necessary supplies.
  • Working collaboratively with the team to provide comprehensive patient care.

The successful candidate will be required to provide services anywhere within the Rehabilitation Services portfolio.

About You

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • Graduation from a recognized Community College Rehabilitation Assistant program or completion of a recognized combined Occupational Therapy (OTA) and Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA) College program.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) training or requirement to complete training within the first three months of employment.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  • Experience working with varied patient populations.
  • Knowledge of proper body mechanics.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to complete assigned work.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with team members, patients, and their care partners.
  • Previous experience working with Geriatric populations.
  • Previous experience working with Frailty and Dementia.
  • Previous experience working with patients/clients with physical and/or cognitive impairments.
  • Previous experience with wheelchair fitting and modifications.
  • Experience providing active and passive range of motion and exercise programs.
  • Experience with transfer training.
  • Competencies in other languages, French preferred.

Hours

This is a permanent, full-time position with 75 hours bi-weekly. Shifts will include weekdays, scheduled weekends, and holidays.

Compensation and Incentives

The successful candidate will receive a competitive hourly rate of $25.95. Additionally, they may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
