Role Responsibilities:

The Registered Nurse (RN) will report to the Director of Care and/or their designate, serving as a role model and team leader. The RN will coordinate and oversee the activities and responsibilities of those providing direct care to residents. Duties include:

  • Engaging as a collaborative team member, fostering professional relationships that enhance the organizational culture.
  • Assessing residents' needs and implementing individualized, resident-centered care plans.
  • Supporting LPNs in reviewing and updating care plans, providing clinical decision-making support as necessary.
  • Administering medications and treatments in accordance with established standards and regulations.
  • Managing community wound care, assisting LPNs with assessments and referrals as needed.
  • Providing direct care to residents and collaborating with various disciplines to ensure quality care.
  • Communicating effectively with physicians, community representatives, families, and volunteers.
  • Facilitating the move-in process and adhering to community policies.
  • Participating in Care Conferences when the DOC or designate is unavailable.
  • Ensuring the rights of residents are upheld and adhering to a holistic wellness philosophy.
  • Acting as a First Aid attendant and ensuring proper documentation for any incidents.
  • Maintaining a safe environment through accident prevention and knowledge of emergency procedures.
  • Coordinating and supervising care staff, directing their work to ensure resident-focused care.
  • Providing clinical guidance to community care staff in the absence of the DOC or designate.
  • Fulfilling clinical on-call duties as required.
  • Conducting community audits and compiling data for the DOC or designate.
  • Participating in the orientation of new employees and providing educational resources to clinical staff.
  • Contributing to staff evaluations and supporting LPNs in mentoring HCA staff.
  • Actively engaging in community programs, meetings, and educational in-services.
  • Maintaining confidentiality in paper and electronic documentation as per established standards.
  • Performing other related duties as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing program with a current license from the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as an RN.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing is an asset.
  • Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 certification and CPR.
  • Successful completion of annual Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) competency testing.
  • Previous experience in a long-term care setting is preferred.
  • All applicants must pass a vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check as per Provincial guidelines.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English, with the ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs and work with cleaning agents.
