Position Overview
The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) plays a pivotal role in fostering the education and professional development of NICU nurses. This position involves mentorship, support, team integration, and the implementation and evaluation of educational programs. The CNE is a registered nursing professional in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario, demonstrating strong leadership, change management, and problem-solving abilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate the training and integration of nursing staff at both the organizational and unit levels, ensuring adherence to the College of Nurses of Ontario's Professional Standards.
- Support nursing practice and its integration into clinical settings in collaboration with clinical teams.
- Contribute to the orientation and ongoing education of nursing and interprofessional staff.
- Develop, adapt, and deliver orientation and educational resources using diverse methods in line with organizational policies.
- Collaborate with interprofessional teams within the NICU and Maternal Newborn program to develop and implement policies and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain a consistent presence on clinical units to support staff education and track skillset achievements.
- Monitor and evaluate nursing practices, creating learning goals and action plans while identifying barriers to learning.
- Act as a liaison between unit leadership, other Clinical Nurse Educators, and Professional Practice.
Qualifications
- Regulated Healthcare Professional.
- Preferred experience as a Clinical Nurse Educator or Advanced Practice Nurse.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching or precepting.
- At least 3 years of acute care experience.
- A minimum of 2 years in a front-line leadership role.
- A Master of Nursing or related healthcare field is an asset.
