Position Summary

The Cost Estimation Specialist will play a crucial role in developing comprehensive cost assessments for significant building enhancement and new equipment installation projects. Key responsibilities include:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed cost assessments for major building enhancement and new equipment installation projects.
  • Accurately evaluate materials, labor, and equipment expenses based on project proposals, plans, and specifications, including project closure details.
  • Prepare requests for quotations to obtain competitive pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Create consistent and reliable project costing templates categorized by unit, division, or type.
  • Coordinate a cost benchmarking process throughout the project bidding phase across all regions.
  • Standardize pricing grid utilization and gather extensive pricing data for construction, services, and equipment.
  • Provide consistent data, training, and support to project managers in their estimation tasks and validate specific project estimates.
  • Evaluate and challenge change orders' real market value in collaboration with project managers and vendors.
  • Offer interactive support for all bids and proposals.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Estimator and Projects Team to ascertain project costs and overheads for each estimate.
  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of the estimating process and tools, along with some key project estimates.
  • Participate in handover meetings with the project management team post-award.
  • Maintain databases within estimating software and tools.

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience in electrical construction estimation is advantageous.
  • Prior experience on construction job sites is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in estimating software, tools, and MS Excel is essential.
  • Familiarity with Trimble software is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required.
  • Strong client focus, proactive attitude, and a results-oriented mindset are necessary.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities are crucial.
  • Meticulous attention to quality, accuracy, and detail is essential.
  • Knowledge of Canadian codes and standards is preferred.
