Job Summary

The School District #8 (Kootenay Lake) is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to fill the role of Roving Education Assistant/Noon Hour Supervisor. This position is a key member of the school-based team, providing support for students with special needs in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized support to students with special needs, facilitating their learning and social development.
  • Assist students with daily living skills, such as feeding, dressing, and toileting, as needed.
  • Monitor and assist students during unstructured time, including recess, lunch hour, and before/after school periods.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and other staff members to ensure a collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • Participate in school-based planning and meetings to develop and implement individualized education plans.
  • Use adaptive technology and other equipment to support student learning and independence.
  • Work collaboratively with other support staff to ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Principal or designate.
Requirements
  • College of the Rockies SPEDA course or equivalent college program in the Human Services field.
  • Minimum of one (1) year college-level training in behavior management and students with special needs.
  • Ability to work effectively with students and adults, communicating appropriately and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Flexibility and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative team, maintaining a professional attitude and confidentiality in working relationships with all school personnel, students, and parents.
  • Ability to work with non-compliant students in a non-confrontational manner.
  • Training in non-violent crisis intervention will be provided.
  • Valid B.C. (Class 5) Driver's License may be required.
  • Understanding and knowledge of safe work practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current autism training (e.g. POPARD Level 1 or equivalent).
  • Non-violent crisis intervention training (e.g. MANDT).
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, providing support to students with special needs. The position requires flexibility and the ability to work with minimal supervision. The successful candidate will be required to work in a variety of settings, including classrooms, playgrounds, and other school-based areas.
