Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Children's Librarian to join our team at the City of Vancouver. As a key member of our Children's and Teen Services team, you will provide exceptional service to the public, meeting established library strategic objectives and service standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide library services to children and families, including programming, information services, and collection management.
  • Work collaboratively with the Children's and Teen Services team to ensure service priorities are met.
  • Develop and implement programs and services that promote literacy, learning, and community engagement.
  • Provide advice and direction to non-professional staff engaged in library clerical duties.
  • Meet the public, promote interest in library services, and assist library patrons.

Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited library school.
  • Experience in the provision of library services, including programming, information services, and collection management.
  • Experience in providing library services for children or a relevant combination of training and experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of librarianship.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and carry out assigned duties and responsibilities with minimal supervision.

Working Conditions:

  • Work at any location in the VPL system.
  • May be required to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
