Position Overview:

St.Amant is dedicated to ensuring that all children with disabilities have access to necessary health and social services. We are seeking a qualified Music Therapist to contribute to this mission.

The Music Therapist will deliver services in alignment with the Mission and Values of St.Amant, adhering to the policies and procedures of Clinical Services and relevant professional standards. A strong focus on customer service is essential in all interactions with clients, staff, and professional relationships.

As a vital member of the Clinical Services team, the Music Therapist will engage in Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives, participating in the development and implementation of service goals, objectives, and standards. Feedback from service evaluations will be utilized to enhance service delivery continually.

  • The Music Therapist will collaborate within an interdisciplinary team to provide direct, consultative, or mediated services. A client-centered approach is paramount, ensuring that interventions are effective and beneficial.
  • Utilizing music and its therapeutic properties, the Music Therapist will motivate clients to achieve various non-musical and, when appropriate, musical objectives. Emphasis will be placed on fostering personal and social development, enhancing communication skills, promoting relaxation, and offering psychosocial support. The therapist may work with individuals across different age groups.

Qualifications:

Educational Background:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy or Creative Arts Therapy (specialization in Music Therapy) from an accredited institution is required.
  • Additional relevant specializations are advantageous.

Professional Credentials:

  • Certification as a Music Therapist (MTA) with the Canadian Association of Music Therapists (CAMT) and/or Music Therapist-Board Certified (MT-BC) with the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) is required.
  • Membership in the Music Therapy Association of Manitoba is a plus.
  • Experience in providing music therapy services in an interdisciplinary context is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of experience delivering music therapy to individuals with developmental disabilities, complex care needs, Acquired Brain Injuries, and Autism Spectrum Disorder is beneficial.

Clinical Competencies:

  • Proficiency in voice, guitar, percussion, and piano is essential.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of best practices in music therapy related to service development and implementation.
  • Understanding of developmental stages and relationship dynamics across age groups.
  • Ability to manage cases and create service plans collaboratively with clients and caregivers.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize and manage caseloads effectively.
  • Capability to implement music therapy interventions in diverse settings, including individual and group formats, and document their outcomes.
  • Competence in documenting plans and interventions accurately and promptly.
  • Ability to follow a clinical process involving assessment, treatment planning, and completion.
  • Skill in establishing professional relationships with clients.
  • Demonstrated counseling skills in crisis management and personal development within music therapy.
  • Adept at identifying high-risk situations and responding appropriately.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic relationship dynamics and transition preparation.
  • Commitment to person-centered and family-centered practices.
  • Familiarity with mindful-care practices and their integration with music therapy.
  • Understanding of service systems and ability to access or develop necessary supports.

Responsibilities:

The Music Therapist will formulate and execute service plans in accordance with St.Amant's Mission and Values, policies, and professional standards.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Assessing and documenting client needs and abilities in music therapy; developing and implementing suitable treatment interventions.
  • Providing training to caregivers who will implement the Music Therapist's recommendations.
  • Developing and overseeing clinical programs.
  • Involving the client's support network in the assessment and intervention process.
  • Consulting with other services to ensure coordinated planning.
  • Maintaining client files in accordance with program protocols.
  • Monitoring and documenting clinical outcomes.
  • Reporting high-risk situations as per policy.
  • Evaluating products and equipment to meet client needs.
  • Creating materials for client use or supervising clinical assistants.
  • Developing clinical specialties based on client needs.
  • Incorporating research-informed approaches into service delivery.
