We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Early Childhood Educator to join our team at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board.

About the Role:

As a Registered Early Childhood Educator, you will work in collaboration with the classroom teacher to provide high-quality, play-based education to support the enhanced learning and cognitive, emotional, and social development of Junior and Senior Kindergarten students in a full-day Early Learning Program.

You will lead an extended program - before and/or after-school - for OCDSB students at designated elementary schools, and work with the teacher in daily classroom activities with students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-quality, play-based education to support the enhanced learning and cognitive, emotional, and social development of Junior and Senior Kindergarten students.
  • Work in collaboration with the classroom teacher to develop and implement lesson plans that meet the individual needs of students.
  • Lead an extended program - before and/or after-school - for OCDSB students at designated elementary schools.
  • Work with the teacher in daily classroom activities with students.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
Requirements:
  • Completed a two-year community college program in Early Childhood Education, or equivalent.
  • Registration and good standing with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of child care experience.
  • Valid First Aid certification/CPR.
  • Immunization Record with proof of MMR and Tdap immunizations (as well as a personal declaration of having chicken pox in the past, or the chicken pox vaccine).
  • Police Records Check for the Vulnerable Sector Check done within the last 6 months for new to OCDSB employees, or within the last 5 years for current OCDSB employees.
Skills and Abilities:
  • A thorough understanding of early childhood development and knowledge of elementary school operations.
  • Good communication skills to effectively communicate with parents, staff, and students.
  • Ability to use tact, discretion, and good judgment.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision within a multicultural environment, and respect and work with a diverse range of children and families of all backgrounds and abilities.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to individual needs of children in a multi-ethnic and multilingual environment.
  • Demonstrates initiative and creativity.
  • Has the ability to model healthy adult-child relationships and positive discipline.
  • Adapts well to changing demands.
  • As an effective team player, this position works collaboratively with teaching staff to achieve goals.
