The Site Medical Executive at Island Health is a pivotal leadership role that encompasses two primary functions: As the Site Medical Executive, this position collaborates closely with the Site Director to ensure seamless and high-quality service delivery across the site. In the capacity of Chief Medical Officer, the role directly engages with Department Heads and Division Leaders to oversee and enhance medical governance within the organization.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  1. Leadership: Co-leads and supervises initiatives to guarantee integrated service delivery; Engages with relevant Departmental Medical Leaders to address physician governance matters, including professional medical practice concerns.
  2. Operations & Quality: Co-monitors site performance, focusing on inter-program issues, and facilitates necessary adjustments; Ensures thorough investigation and resolution of site-related incidents; Collaborates with Departmental Medical Leaders and Medical Affairs to tackle individual practitioner quality challenges.
  3. Change Management: Co-develops and executes change management strategies to engage and support site physicians and staff during transitions.
  4. Informatics: Oversees initiatives that leverage technology and data to enhance service delivery through the use of electronic health records (EHR) in partnership with the Quality Systems team.
  5. Planning: Evaluates, monitors, and anticipates site resource requirements, collaborating with medical and administrative leaders to prioritize these needs within the available resources.
