About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Construction Estimator to join our team at Surface 1 Inc. as a key member of our estimating department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Estimating and Bidding
    • Prepare detailed estimates of labor and material costs for construction projects
    • Develop and submit pre-qualification submissions to present to clients
  • Project Analysis
    • Analyze blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine work requirements
    • Prepare master format estimates (Class A) and elemental format estimates (Classes B, C, D)
  • Communication and Collaboration
    • Communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
    • Liaise with stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely estimates
  • Administrative Tasks
    • Operate CADD and other computer software systems
    • Prepare estimates for general expenses and overheads
    • Provide economic feasibility studies and preliminary estimates for proposed projects
    • Project cash flow and financing requirements
  • Reporting and Monitoring
    • Create and submit estimate reports, quote sheets, and bids forms
    • Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems
    • Monitor and adjust contract expenditures
    Requirements
    • Education
      • College, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years
    • Experience
      • 1 year to less than 2 years of experience in construction estimating
    • Skills
      • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
      • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
      • Proficiency in CADD and other computer software systems
