Job Title: Registered Practical Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join our team at Verve Senior Living. As an RPN, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality care to our residents, ensuring their physical, emotional, and social needs are met.

Accountability Objective:

As an RPN, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing direct resident care, including administering medications, performing treatments, and assisting with daily living activities.
  • Assessing the needs of individual residents and developing personalized care plans to promote maximum independence.
  • Participating in the development and implementation of a plan of care for residents, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Supervising and guiding care given by attendants or designated staff, ensuring high-quality care is provided.
  • Maintaining accurate records of nursing observations and procedures performed, completing all required reports.
Background/Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A minimum of grade 12 education and a recognized nursing license (RPN licensing) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  • Certification in Emergency First Aid, CPR, and AED.
  • Previous experience working as an RPN in a healthcare setting is considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with residents, families, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, evaluating and meeting resident care needs, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities:

As an RPN, you will be responsible for:

  • Participating in and adhering to continuous quality improvement standards.
  • Ensuring the resident's file is established, with proper documentation and safe practices related to medication administration processes.
  • Updating residents' plan of care every 6 months, or as required.
  • Carrying out planned assignments as designated by the Health and Wellness Manager/Director of Care/Health and Wellness Supervisor, or delegate, for effective resident care.
  • Supervising the care given by attendants or designated staff, in accordance with the resident care plans and providing job guidance to general duty attendants.
  • Distributing medications and providing treatments to residents in accordance with current and approved standards of care, policies, and procedures.
  • Answering emergency calls from residents, giving assistance where possible, and contacting professional help and/or family when necessary.
  • Providing direct resident care, in accordance with current and approved standards of care, policies, and procedures.
  • Complying with infection control protocols as directed, e.g., outbreak management.
  • Acting as a leader and helping develop employees to ensure an adequate level of service and job standard are achieved.
  • In the absence of a manager, responsible for actioning on any emergency situations requiring immediate attention, should they arise.
  • Maintaining accurate records of nursing observations and procedures performed. Completing all required reports.
  • Assisting in maintaining a neat, clean, and safe environment for residents and personnel. Recognizing safety hazards and taking appropriate action.
  • Assisting with safekeeping of all medication and nursing solutions in the residence.
  • Reports all incidents and changes in resident status to Health & Wellness Manager/Director of Care/Health and Wellness Supervisor, and subsequent shift as well as completes shift report.
  • Participates as a member of the multi-disciplinary team in the development of, and implementation of, a plan of care for residents that supports independence.
  • Keeps the Health & Wellness Manager informed of staff member performance.
  • Assists in monitoring and evaluating outcome of specific interventions regularly and offers information or suggestions for improvement.
  • Provides ongoing support to co-workers and acts as advocate for residents and families to ensure residents' rights are protected.
  • Utilizes equipment and supplies effectively and in accordance with policies and procedures, manufacturer's instructions, and health and safety regulations.
  • Serves beverages and resident meals in dining room, as requested.
  • Assists with other duties to ensure the smooth functioning of the residence, including housekeeping and laundry duties, maintains adequate stock of supplies, as required.
  • Maintains effective communication, both written and verbal with co-workers. Uses the appropriate lines of communication with supervisory staff, and good interpersonal relations with residents, families, physicians, and other departments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Health and Wellness Manager/Director of Care/Health and Wellness Supervisor or delegate.
  • Complies with all corporate policies and procedures.
  • Completes all required mandatory training/education.
  • Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System/Globally Harmonized System. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills. Participates in the ongoing Fire Prevention, and Pest Control programs and any other programs as required.
