Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Character Animator to join our team at SHED. As a Character Animator, you will be responsible for bringing characters to life in 3D animation projects.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret storyboards and develop character animation concepts.
  • Work from 3D layout scenes to create engaging character animations.
  • Collaborate with the rigging team to ensure seamless character movement.
  • Export alembics for lighting and simulations departments.
  • Maintain continuity of actions from shot to shot.
  • Create layout scenes and animate character, environment, and camera placement.
  • Shoot or research animation references as needed.
  • Execute corrections requested by supervisors and/or director using analytical skills.
  • Work closely with the production team to ensure project goals are met.
  • Be involved in decisions that affect the animation department and proactively recommend continuous improvements to the pipeline.
  • Organize work and prepare presentation materials for approvals.
  • Provide supervisors and producers with progress reports on an as-needed basis.

Requirements

  • A degree in a 3D animation program or a related field.
  • Experience in film, advertising, or television production.
  • Experience in character animation on 3D animation projects.
  • Excellent knowledge of character animation principles, including performance, posing, timing, weight, and lip sync.
  • Knowledge of rigging and Shotgrid software.
  • An ease with the Windows environment.

Work Environment

You will be part of a small group of animation specialists, working with a team of 5 to 30 3D artists depending on the project scale. We value a healthy work environment where commitment, mutual aid, and direct communication between artists are essential.
