Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Claims Consultant to enhance our National EBI/Energy Specialty Claims team.
In this role, you will manage intricate large loss claims across multiple distribution channels. Your responsibilities will include the direct oversight and management of first-party claims, as well as some third-party complex claims with exposures both in Canada and internationally.
The types of claims you will handle may encompass Energy, Equipment Breakdown, Commercial Property, Environmental Liability, and other Specialty Claims.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee, investigate, analyze, negotiate, and resolve large and intricate Commercial, Energy, and Equipment Breakdown property claims typically exceeding $1 Million, involving specialized loss types;
- Collaborate with and manage consultants, independent adjusters, accountants, and engineers as necessary to confirm coverage, establish liability, and assess damages;
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to regional file handlers to ensure consistent and effective claims management and support long-term succession planning;
- Conduct training sessions for colleagues on the handling of complex claims;
- Partner with Underwriting and Loss Prevention teams to identify potential risks, hazards, and trends;
- Deliver exceptional customer service to Brokers, Clients, and Colleagues;
- Meet and exceed all key performance indicators related to loss development, loss adjustment expenses, claims leakage control, and expense management;
- Utilize your expertise in a creative, continuous improvement environment to promote best practice operations;
- Negotiate claims effectively when appropriate;
- Participate in settlement conferences and trials;
- Attend loss locations and broker/client meetings as necessary.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in the direct handling of large and complex commercial property claims, with at least 5 years focused on large and complex equipment breakdown and energy claims;
- Extensive technical expertise gained through direct management of large and complex property claims;
- Strong critical thinking skills and intellectual curiosity when addressing complex issues in time-sensitive situations;
- Excellent communication skills to foster positive business relationships and provide clear guidance to clients;
- Proven problem-solving abilities, capable of gathering information, evaluating situations, and negotiating solutions;
- Adaptability to changing needs and the ability to be flexible and agile;
- Strong organizational skills to develop effective strategies;
- A collaborative spirit with a passion for mentoring and coaching others;
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant regulatory and legal requirements applicable to this role;
- An undergraduate degree or CIP designation is an asset;
- Willingness to travel as needed.
