With a legacy spanning over five decades, the firm specializes in overseeing private mortgage lending funds across Canada and the United States.

Position Summary:
We are in search of a skilled corporate and commercial real estate attorney to enhance our in-house legal department. This role will report directly to the General Counsel and will involve close collaboration with various business units within the organization. The primary focus will be on facilitating mortgage transactions in both Canada and the US, encompassing a diverse range of commercial properties and projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft and negotiate letters of intent, commitment letters, and loan agreements.
  • Act as the main liaison for external legal counsel and internal teams during the closing of mortgage loan transactions in Canada and the US.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of legal due diligence documentation.
  • Provide support in loan administration, enforcement actions, and litigation matters.
  • Perform certain corporate secretarial functions.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in lender-side commercial mortgage financing.
  • Active member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Exceptional communication, drafting, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.
  • Proactive self-starter with a keen attention to detail and strong business insight.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in mortgage enforcement and litigation.
  • Familiarity with US transactions.
  • Knowledge of investment funds.
  • Understanding of mortgage brokerage, securities law, and anti-money laundering regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of Canadian and US tax and insolvency legislation.
