Overview

The Plant Manager at Holcim will oversee the daily operations of one of our premier Sand and Gravel facilities in Eastern Canada. This position is crucial for ensuring excellence in safety, environmental stewardship, production efficiency, and distribution logistics. The role encompasses the development, leadership, and management of all site personnel. The Plant Manager will collaborate with various functional teams, including safety, environmental, land management, manufacturing, and supply chain, to foster a unified approach and consistent processes. Additionally, the Plant Manager will engage with local communities and stakeholders to uphold our corporate social responsibility commitments, ensuring we are recognized as a respected member of the industry.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Safety Leadership:

Foster a robust safety culture at the site through active engagement with employees and contractors, aiming for 'zero' harm. Conduct daily safety meetings to reinforce commitment to workplace safety. Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations, including hazard reporting and risk assessments. Participate in health and safety audits and manage the Contractor Safety Management program.

2. Human Resource Management:

Oversee the development, motivation, and training of direct reports to enhance their performance. Administer disciplinary actions fairly and consistently to address performance issues. Lead the recruitment process and manage local collective agreements, promoting operational efficiency and performance management.

3. Production Oversight:

Assess manpower needs and schedule shifts to meet production targets. Develop and manage weekly production and maintenance schedules, ensuring daily production goals are met. Participate in planning and executing maintenance activities, including job planning and equipment inspections.

4. Financial Oversight:

Develop and adhere to annual maintenance budgets, participate in monthly financial reviews, and identify cost-saving opportunities. Manage production and inventory forecasting to optimize profitability and support supply chain operations.

5. Customer Engagement:

Supervise frontline shipping personnel and coordinate with sales and dispatch teams to fulfill customer requirements. Manage stockpile inventories and address quality issues related to shipping.

6. Land Management:

Plan and execute activities in line with the Mining Plan, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.

7. Environmental Stewardship:

Assist in developing and maintaining the site’s Environmental Management System (EMS). Ensure compliance with water usage permits and participate in environmental audits.

8. Community Relations:

Act as the primary liaison with local stakeholders, including community members and government officials.

Collaboration with Other Functions:

  • Work closely with other Plant Managers to align operational priorities.
  • Collaborate with the Manufacturing Group to implement best practices.
  • Partner with the Safety Group to maintain a culture of safety.
  • Coordinate with Land and Environmental Managers to meet regulatory standards.
  • Engage with Operations Analysts to ensure accurate budgeting and forecasting.
  • Work with Quality, Customer Service, and Logistics Managers to optimize production costs and customer satisfaction.

Accountabilities:

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in business, engineering, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration is an asset.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
