Position Overview

The Financial Operations Supervisor serves as the primary contact for all financial and accounting functions at the project level. This role collaborates closely with both project and district management, delivering valuable insights into the fiscal status of projects. Key responsibilities include: assessing construction job costs, conducting data analysis and reporting for management, overseeing budgeting and forecasting, and ensuring accurate revenue recognition. Additionally, the Financial Operations Supervisor is tasked with the training, development, and oversight of all project business personnel.

District Overview

Kiewit's Western Canada District operates from a central hub in Burnaby, British Columbia, focusing on heavy civil projects that encompass earth moving, transportation, roadways, bridges, water resources, and underground utilities. Opportunities are available across the entire West Coast of Canada.

Location

This position is based full-time in our Burnaby District Office.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts project forecast evaluations, leveraging historical and trend data to validate forecasts, adhering to company standards for cost and revenue reporting.
  • Assists the Operations team in decision-making by identifying, quantifying, and communicating financial risks and opportunities.
  • Manages employee performance through a clear division of responsibilities, setting expectations and goals, and providing constructive feedback during performance reviews.
  • Prepares client invoices, oversees accounts receivable and revenue management, and reviews monthly project cash flow projections.
  • Analyzes and comprehends prime contracts and change orders, including aspects such as insurance, taxes, payment terms, and labor regulations.
  • Implements and adheres to proper internal controls, serving as the main contact for any internal or external financial audits.
  • Champions continuous improvement initiatives within the organization and advocates for positive change.
  • Builds trust and credibility with the Operations team to foster better cohesion and clear communication throughout the organization.
  • Demonstrates a strong desire to learn the intricacies of field operations to enhance understanding and communication of financial reports and data.
  • Exhibits exceptional customer service skills, maintaining a positive and willing attitude as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in financial or data analysis.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Fundamental knowledge of accounting principles, including general ledgers, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and taxation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, with experience in Pivot Tables, V-Look Ups, and other essential functions.
  • Familiarity with complex ERP systems (SAP, Oracle) for financial reporting and forecasting.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI) for presenting complex financial analyses.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written), along with excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities.
  • A robust work ethic and a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
  • Ability to access all areas of a construction site freely.
  • Willingness to travel and/or relocate as necessary.

Compensation

Base Compensation: $75,000 - $95,000 (Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skillset, and/or location).
