Pharmacy Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team at the Ontario Veterinary College Health Sciences Centre (OVC HSC) at the University of Guelph.
Key Responsibilities- Dispense pharmaceuticals under the supervision of a pharmacist or clinician, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of medications to patients.
- Issue non-prescription drugs and maintain relevant records, preparing reports as required.
- Stock, restock, and monitor drug supplies in ward areas, including automated dispensing machines (Omnicells), and remove and return expired stock to companies for credit.
- Ensure all medications are stored properly, preparing products requiring specialized techniques, including intravenous admixtures, parenteral nutrition, and chemotherapy.
- Compound pharmaceuticals, including bulk external liquids, small and large volume parenterals, sterile eye drops, and oral liquids, as well as repackaging manufacturer-supplied items or bulk compounded items into smaller units for use throughout the hospital.
- Order drugs and related items in accordance with University of Guelph purchasing policies.
- Provide cross-functional guidance to new technicians and non-pharmacy staff.
- Graduation from a recognized Pharmacy Technician Training program (RPhT certification preferred).
- Up to two (2) years of practical experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy setting.
- Knowledge of aseptic technique, pharmaceutical compounding, and preparation of injectable chemotherapy drugs.
- Proficiency with pharmacy computer systems and hospital information systems, as well as Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and in a team.
The incumbent will work 7-hour day shifts of variable start times, with occasional possibility of evenings or weekends as per operational requirements.
The hourly rate is $28.96 per hour, with a tentative evaluation.
