Student Assistant

The Indigenous Student Services (ISS) team at Douglas College is seeking a Student Assistant to provide support in various day-to-day, programming, and student outreach activities. As a Student Assistant, you will play a vital role in promoting Indigenous student success and engagement on campus.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in training workshops, including peer helping, effective communication, and Indigenous cultural protocols.
- Provide peer-to-peer support to Indigenous students through active listening and referrals to College and community services.
- Support the day-to-day functioning of the Indigenous student lounge, including tidying, organizing supplies, and tracking student participation.
- Coordinate projects and events that contribute to Indigenous student orientation, transition, and engagement.
- Support food security initiatives, including cooking, preparing sandwich fixings, and coordinating the food pantry.
- Welcome guests into the Indigenous Gathering Place and provide support during events.
- Create promotional materials for the department using Canva and similar tools.
- Support College Elders during events and participate in community events with Indigenous partners.
- Self-identified Indigenous student (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit).
- At least one previous semester as a student at Douglas College.
- In good academic standing (not on academic probation).
- Meet one of the eligibility criteria for domestic or international students.
