About This Opportunity

We are seeking a Certified Palliative Medicine Physician to join our dynamic and growing multidisciplinary palliative care team on the South Shore of Nova Scotia. The successful candidate will provide coverage to palliative patients and families at home, hospital, and hospice, working as part of a collegial team serving communities such as Chester, Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, Bridgewater, New Germany, and Liverpool. The team consists of palliative care nurses, social workers, administrative assistants, a program manager, and two other Palliative Care Physicians. The physician will play an important clinical role, collaborating and consulting with family physicians and medical specialists using a shared-care model. The opportunity to link with Dalhousie University and provide teaching to medical students and residents, as well as participate in research, is also available. The ideal candidate will have a certificate of added competence in Palliative Care and be eligible for specialty licensure in Nova Scotia. Preference will be given to candidates with full-time experience in palliative medicine.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development and delivery of inter-professional initiatives in Palliative Care across all faculties
  • Provide care in all care settings, including hospital, in-patient palliative care unit, home, LTC, and assisted living residences
  • Follow patients after initial consult with appropriate visits, phone support, and collaboration with the patient's other healthcare providers
  • Work closely with the palliative care team
  • Act as a patient's advocate
  • Prescribe and administer medications and treatments, CADD pumps usage
  • Mentor longitudinal integrated clerkship students and family medicine residents from Dalhousie University
Expected Hours
  • Full-time, 1.0 FTE
  • Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours per day
  • 6 weeks of paid vacation/CPD per year
Qualifications
  • Eligible for licensure with the CPSNS
  • Eligible for certification with the CFPC
  • Accredited training in Palliative Medicine or Certificate of Added Competence in Palliative Care
  • Demonstrated ability and experience working in a shared care model and across a multitude of care settings
  • Demonstrated interest in the palliative approach to care and capacity building with other colleagues
