Job Title: Environmental Services Supervisor

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Environmental Services Supervisor to join our team at Vancouver General Hospital. As a key member of our Environmental Services team, you will play a vital role in promoting a safe and respectful working environment for patients, residents, families, visitors, and staff.

About the Role:

The Environmental Services Supervisor will be responsible for supervising a team of Housekeeping Aides and Lead Hands, ensuring that daily activities are organized and staff are equipped to meet established housekeeping standards. This includes ordering and monitoring Environmental Services supplies, maintaining related reports, and preparing budget estimates. The successful candidate will also act as a liaison with other departments and perform a variety of housekeeping duties, such as damp dusting, dry and wet mopping of floors, floor maintenance and refinishing, cleaning and disinfecting ceiling, wall, vent, washroom, bed, furniture, and equipment, regular and biomedical waste collection and removal, hazardous spill clean-up, bed-making, and maintaining the overall cleanliness of the facility according to organizational policies, procedures, and routines.

About Environmental Services at VCH:

Environmental Services plays a critical role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our facilities. Our team works closely with infection control and patient care teams to clean and disinfect clinical and non-clinical areas, including patient care rooms, offices, washrooms, and common areas. We also remove garbage, recycling, soiled linen, and bio-hazard waste, vacuum carpets, clean and polish floors, and disinfect walls and beds, among other duties.

Qualifications:
  • Grade 10, plus three (3) years' recent, related experience, including six (6) months' supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver's License as local area travel may be required.
Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Ability to supervise.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
