Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Digital Evidence Management Team Lead to join our team at the City of Edmonton. As a key member of our Digital Evidence & Records Management Unit, you will oversee a team of Digital Evidence Management Technicians and play a critical role in ensuring the integrity, confidentiality, and authenticity of our digital evidence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, supervision, and feedback to a team of Digital Evidence Management Technicians.
  • Set performance goals, monitor progress, and report on team performance.
  • Plan, monitor, and prioritize work assignments to meet operational needs.
  • Provide ongoing analysis of workflow, service delivery, and volumes to prevent backlogs and meet disclosure timelines.
  • Analyze and adapt processes as our digital evidence management program evolves, assisting in establishing governance standards, procedures, and policies.
  • Identify records and information management risks, recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with legislation and policy.
  • Liaise with the Crown Prosecution offices to provide end-user support and obtain direction on redaction and vetting in complex situations.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for the digital evidence management system, providing technical assistance and training.
  • Record and audit procedures and technologies used in redacting and vetting, ensuring information is properly documented for disclosure.
  • Conduct digital evidence management system audits for internal purposes and court requests; write affidavits and attend court if/as needed.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports for leadership with actionable insights and verified data to guide strategic planning and operational decisions.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be exposed to video and content that may be graphic.

Qualifications
  • Completion of the twelfth (12th) school grade including business subjects with emphasis on subjects related to the area of specialization or completion of a relevant certificate program from an approved business school/college.
  • Minimum of 5 years progressively responsible experience in the area of specialization (records/digital evidence management and/or investigative records).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience supervising a moderate to large team.
  • Advanced knowledge of records/information/digital evidence management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and display professionalism, sound judgment, and sensitivity when handling confidential information.
  • Well-developed critical thinking skills to understand how current actions affect areas across the organization in the short and long term.
  • Ability to see the bigger picture and focus on long-term goals.
  • Strong computer, technical, and analytical skills.
  • Experience with Niche RMS, JOIN, and/or is an asset.
  • Experience writing Affidavits or other Judicial Authorizations.
  • Knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, Canada & Alberta Evidence Acts, Alberta Provincial Policing Standard, Generally Accepted Recordkeeping Principles, and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP).
  • Experience in operational policing (e.g., former police officer), a court or law enforcement setting would be a significant asset.
  • Applicants may be required to undergo a knowledge or skills assessment test.
  • As part of your pre-hire screening, you will be required to complete an Enhanced Security Clearance. Should you accept employment with the Edmonton Police Service you acknowledge and agree to participate in future Enhanced Security Re-Clearances at scheduled intervals or in any other circumstances, exigent or otherwise, as required by Human Resources Division.
Hours of Work

40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 0700 – 1530. Subject to change. Some after-hours or on-call work may be required.

Salary Range

$67, $85, Annually. Please note, these positions are currently under review.
