Patent Agent Opportunity at Osler

Osler is seeking a skilled Patent Agent to join our Intellectual Property group in Ottawa. As a Patent Agent, you will play a key role in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, primarily in relation to pharmaceutical, biochemical, or software/computer-related technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in the life sciences, software, or computer-related subject matter
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their patent needs and develop effective strategies
  • Stay up-to-date with Canadian patent practice and recent changes in patent law
  • Manage client relationships and coordinate worldwide prosecution of patent portfolios
  • Work closely with the Intellectual Property team to provide exceptional client service
Requirements
  • Registered Canadian Patent Agent in good standing with the College of Patent Agents & Trademark Agents (CPATA)
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience drafting patent applications in the relevant technical area
  • Advanced degree (M.Sc., preferably Ph.D.) in life sciences, with chemistry preferred, or electrical engineering, computer sciences, or software engineering
  • Excellent knowledge of Canadian patent practice and recent changes in patent law
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
