POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Manager of Organizational Development, the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging Specialist plays a crucial role in the creation and execution of programs, policies, and initiatives aimed at promoting equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging (EDIB) at Michael Garron Hospital.
This position is responsible for enhancing organizational capacity through collaboration, engagement, and expert guidance. The Specialist will spearhead initiatives that incorporate anti-racism, anti-oppression, and social accountability principles throughout the hospital, ensuring alignment with the institution's vision and values.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with the MGH Inclusion Alliance and key stakeholders to formulate and integrate EDIB objectives into the hospital's operational framework.
- Contribute to the design and rollout of a comprehensive EDIB strategy that aligns with the hospital's overarching strategic goals.
- Oversee the execution of the EDIB work plan, prioritizing objectives and initiatives.
- Develop and implement a holistic EDIB framework across the organization.
- Conduct evaluations of existing policies and procedures to identify systemic biases and areas for improvement.
- Act as an internal expert and advisor on diversity, equity, inclusion, and social accountability matters.
- Gather and analyze data related to diversity and health equity, collaborating with stakeholders to enhance inclusivity.
- Assist in the formulation and revision of diversity and inclusion policies.
- Create and manage a corporate-wide calendar of diversity and inclusion events and strategies.
- Support the establishment and engagement of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) within the hospital.
- Lead the development and implementation of EDIB programs aimed at fostering cultural and behavioral transformation.
- Work with Human Resources and Patient Experience teams to address internal investigations related to Human Rights Code violations.
- Partner with Organizational Development to design and deliver training that enhances understanding of diversity, inclusion, equity, and cultural competency.
- Conduct assessments and surveys to identify EDIB needs and formulate strategies to bridge gaps.
- Manage diversity, equity, and inclusion analytics, generating reports to showcase trends and program impacts.
- Provide training and workshops to cultivate an inclusive culture within the organization.
- Represent the hospital in external committees and collaborations within the East Toronto Health Partners.
- Perform additional duties as required by the Organizational Development team.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., human resources, equity studies, sociology) or equivalent experience.
- PMP certification or similar credentials are advantageous.
- A minimum of five years of experience in developing and implementing EDIB programs and initiatives.
- Comprehensive knowledge of best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion, with a proven track record of driving transformational change.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage sensitively with diverse communities.
- Experience in building trusting relationships across all organizational levels.
- Strong facilitation skills and experience in managing organizational change.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, including report writing and presentation skills.
- Proficient project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders in complex environments.
- In-depth understanding of relevant legislation, including the Ontario Human Rights Code and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
- Experience working with historically marginalized communities and promoting health equity.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic organizational setting.
- Demonstrated expertise in software tools such as MS Office and project management applications.
- Healthcare experience is a plus.
