JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation Inc. is seeking a proactive, strategic, and results-oriented professional to fill the role of Lead Civil Engineering Specialist within our Plant Design Civil team located in Pickering, Ontario .

The Lead Civil Engineering Specialist will play a crucial role in enhancing Ontario Power Generation's operations by monitoring and interpreting plant data, collaborating with both internal and external partners to identify trends, providing effective troubleshooting solutions, and promoting initiatives aimed at optimizing system performance.

This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in a dynamic environment, contributing to Ontario Power Generation's mission of delivering safe, clean, and reliable energy sustainably.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Oversee systems with a focus on chemistry control.
  • Conduct technical assessments, considerations, and proposals across various significant work areas within an Ontario Power Generation Nuclear facility. Ensure that instructions and procedures are current, prepare reports, and review submissions from external entities. Collaborate with the Plant Design team in Pickering to provide structural design support for modifications or tasks assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Work alongside a multidisciplinary team of engineering and technical experts to support the functionality of diverse mechanical and electrical systems from a civil engineering standpoint.
  • Develop and facilitate project execution in accordance with stringent industry regulations and standards.
  • Coordinate the clarification of specification requirements and implement necessary changes while managing technical work across several major work areas.
  • Maintain and/or revise operational and departmental procedures as required.
  • Provide technical evaluations and guidance, resolve issues, and coordinate technical efforts in support of the commissioning, operation, and maintenance of facilities.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural Engineering.
  • Must possess a full engineering license in the province of Ontario.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 10 years of experience in structural design.
  • Experience in a Nuclear Engineering environment is preferred.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with various internal and external stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience leading meetings and delivering presentations.
  • Familiarity with vendor interactions is advantageous.
  • Strong interest in a fast-paced, challenging work environment that values initiative and self-motivation.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering results.
  • Strong understanding of governance and procedures, with an analytical mindset and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of OPG's Engineering Change Control (ECC) Process is beneficial.
  • Ability to thrive in a flexible hybrid office setting.
  • Proficient in structural design/analysis of Steel, Aluminum, and Concrete, with experience using structural engineering software, preferably STAADPRO.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office and Adobe applications is preferred.
  • Capable of designing and inspecting Aluminum Scaffold in accordance with applicable Standards, Codes, and OHSA regulations.
  • Familiarity with Ontario Regulation 851 and Ontario Regulation 213.
