POSITION OVERVIEWThe Financial Controller will be responsible for the comprehensive management of the organization's accounting functions. This includes a focus on project costing and financial reporting across various revenue streams. As a pivotal leader, you will guide a small team of accounting professionals, with the potential to expand the department as the organization grows.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Supervise a team of 3 accounting and clerical staff.
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Costing, banking, and financial reporting.
- Engage in regular Management meetings to discuss financial performance.
- Prepare budgets, cash flow forecasts, and necessary financial reports.
- Provide regular updates to management on financial status.
- Coordinate year-end audits with external auditors and prepare required schedules and reconciliations.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A CPA designation with experience in both for-profit and not-for-profit sectors.
- A minimum of ten years of progressive accounting experience in Canada, with at least five years in a leadership capacity.
- A proven track record of meeting performance expectations and deadlines.
- Innovative problem-solving skills and the ability to think outside the box.
- Hands-on experience in the construction and resource-based industries.
- A strong understanding of complex internal and external financial reporting requirements.
- The capability to produce detailed working schedules and account reconciliations.
- Experience with sophisticated accounting software, particularly Sage100 or similar programs.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to foster collaborative team environments.
