Site: Queensway Health Centre

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 37.5 hours/week (business hours)

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis, the Senior Financial Advisor will spearhead financial support for extensive and intricate program portfolios that encompass various operational and business environments with differing funding models. This role involves managing financial processes or projects within their division, collaborating with team members and other support services to offer senior leaders expert financial and business advice.

The Senior Financial Advisor will facilitate and lead the integration and interpretation of financial and clinical data to promote effective program management. They will provide divisional support by understanding client needs, analyzing data, confidently making recommendations, and aligning financial and operational priorities through effective communication and problem-solving.

As a proactive business partner, the Senior Financial Advisor will engage with Senior Management, Program Directors, Managers, and Physicians to comprehend their operational requirements, coordinate the annual operating and capital budget, conduct forecasts, analyze variances, and assist in developing strategic action plans while ensuring compliance with external reporting obligations.

Key Qualifications:

  • Completion of a professional designation program (CPA) with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent progressive experience
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting standards
  • MIS Certification from OHA preferred
  • Proven experience in developing annual budgets and linking them to program operating and strategic plans
  • Strong analytical skills in assessing business performance and creating business cases
  • Excellent leadership abilities, including communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment
  • Ability to operate autonomously in a fast-paced and diverse operational setting while managing multiple priorities
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and the ability to network with stakeholders to identify solutions
  • Familiarity with MOH Reporting, MIS Guidelines, and OCDM preferred
  • Proficient in Excel (including pivot tables), Word, and PowerPoint

Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate partnerships to lead other financial advisors and support team members in developing comprehensive and standardized reporting while providing summarized financial planning information and advice to senior leaders
  • Oversee multi-sector ministry reporting and audit processes across various programs
  • Collaborate with VPs, Directors, Managers, and other departments in creating annual operating budgets within funding constraints, identifying program efficiencies, and implementing strategic priorities
  • Educate leaders on business and financial processes and responsibilities
  • Build strong relationships with programs to fully understand their processes, operations, funding models, and resource needs
  • Utilize sound business judgment to provide direction and input into innovative program ideas while supporting new change initiatives
  • Ensure alignment in decision-making with program, division, and organizational strategies, highlighting impacts that span cross-program or organization-wide
  • Conduct reviews, summarize findings, and present operational results to identify and interpret significant variances
  • Assist in month-end and year-end revenue recognition, accruals, reconciliations, and monthly reporting
  • Collaborate with various departments to gather information, summarize, and track expenses related to specific externally funded projects
