Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nurse Practitioner to join our team at BC Children's Hospital. As a Nurse Practitioner, Emergency Care Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our emergency department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and treat patients with undifferentiated diseases, illnesses, and conditions within the scope of practice.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic investigations, and analyze information to monitor patient progress and plan treatment.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Write orders for treatment and medications, and make patient rounds as necessary to monitor ongoing care.
  • Establish priorities for patient management, provide follow-up treatment, and communicate with patients and families about health findings, diagnoses, and prognoses.
  • Collaborate and/or consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals as needed to assess and diagnose patient status.
  • Prescribe medications within statutory and regulatory standards, limits, and conditions for Nurse Practitioners, and within applicable employer policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Eligibility to complete the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) through the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Minimum of 4 years of recent, relevant clinical nursing experience.
  • Ability to perform the full scope of Nurse Practitioner duties and responsibilities.

  • Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada.

Salary and Location

The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate's relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part-time roles. The position is located at 4500 Oak St, Vancouver, BC V6H 3N1.
