Position Overview

Retrofit & Repair Program Shop Floor Lead

Department: Staff Specialist Projects Management, Customer Support Services

Key Responsibilities

  1. Act as a key member of the Canadian Project Management Team within the Integrated Product Support (IPS) department, overseeing the execution and coordination of shop floor activities for the Retrofit & Repair Program.
  2. Manage project planning, production readiness, and execution necessary for the development and delivery of vehicles under the Retrofit & Repair Program.
  3. Oversee and track Retrofit & Repair Program activities, including bidding, planning, status updates, risk management, and task completion.
  4. Serve as the primary contact for shop floor supervisors to resolve daily challenges and manage capacity constraints (materials, personnel, priorities, etc.).
  5. Coordinate standard Retrofit & Repair upgrades and additional repairs as vehicles are disassembled and priorities shift.
  6. Monitor Earned Value Management Systems, initiate Baseline Change Requests, and adjust schedules as needed to address variances.
  7. Facilitate daily and weekly progress meetings with internal teams, ensuring resolution and follow-up on technical or programmatic issues.
  8. Oversee the execution and follow-through of Change Request Processes and Service Bulletins for Retrofit & Repair vehicles.
  9. Lead the development and execution of Contractual Change Proposals for Retrofit & Repair vehicles, considering downstream impacts on kitting and materials.
  10. Assist in investigating and analyzing issues, providing recommendations for corrective actions related to Retrofit & Repair activities.
  11. Deliver status updates and metrics reporting for Customer Support Services elements as required across all organizational levels.
  12. Provide technical support, guidance, and justification to all organizational levels and customers as necessary.
  13. Present findings and lead investigations and analyses regarding barriers to Retrofit & Repair execution to all stakeholders.
  14. Participate in and contribute to internal and external customer meetings as required.
  15. Collaborate closely with Customer Support Services teams daily on priorities and successful execution.
  16. Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence from internal and external customers daily.
  17. Support staffing levels, training, presentation preparation, and bid activities as required.
  18. Ensure compliance with contract requirements and management of Retrofit & Repair deliverables.
  19. Collaborate with various departments including Safety, Obsolescence Management, Design Engineering, Logistics Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Training, Packaging Handling Shipping and Transportation, Supply Chain Management, Program Management, Trade Compliance Management, Contract Management, Suppliers, and Sub-contractors to ensure alignment with contractual deliverables.
  20. Prepare and coordinate cost estimates and proposals as necessary.
  21. Utilize independent judgment and considerable latitude in determining technical objectives and solutions to meet Retrofit & Repair demands.
  22. Lead investigations and analyses of root causes of issues, proposing and implementing corrective actions to resolve them.
  23. Provide technical and strategic input into the development of formal customer correspondence related to deliverables, contract objectives, schedules, and event planning.
  24. Act as the Project Leader and main Point of Contact for all Retrofit & Repair shop floor personnel and activities.

Required Qualifications

  1. University Degree or College Diploma in a technical field, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a technical project management role.
  2. Strong communication, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  3. Proven ability to provide effective leadership in meetings.
  4. High level of interpersonal skills for effective teamwork.
  5. Proactive approach with the ability to work with minimal guidance.
  6. Exceptional task management capabilities.
  7. Self-starter mentality.
  8. Strong attention to detail.
  9. Commitment to excellence and delivering quality work.
  10. Flexibility and willingness to handle a variety of tasks in a dynamic environment.
  11. Open-mindedness to unconventional approaches, including areas outside your expertise.
  12. Willingness to travel (10% within Canada and 5% to the US & International) and ability to obtain and maintain a valid passport.
  13. Must meet Anthropometrical Size Restrictions for confined spaces.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. At least 8 years of relevant experience.
  2. Familiarity with Earned Value Management Systems.
  3. Understanding of Military sustainment strategies for Land Equipment.
  4. Knowledge of Customer Support Services planning, internal systems, shop floor demands, and execution of formal task completion.
  5. Experience in executing and implementing in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
