About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Real Property Paralegal to join our team at the Government of Nova Scotia. As a key member of our Real Estate Division, you will play a critical role in providing technical and legal services to support the acquisition and disposal of real estate.

Primary Accountabilities
  • Preparation and Drafting of Legal Documents: You will be responsible for preparing and drafting legal documents to support the purchase and sale of real property, including the preparation of legal documents, research relative to property and commercial law, and coordination of property closings.
  • Property Title Investigations and Research: You will conduct thorough property title investigations, property records research, and searches of legal documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Land Registry Management: You will manage and coordinate submissions to the land registry for the recording of land registration instruments and coordinate with the land registry around mapping requirements.
  • Technical Legal Support: You will provide technical legal support to internal and external legal counsel, management, and staff on real estate transactions.
  • File Management and Records Retention: You will manage and maintain accurate and up-to-date files and records for real property transactions, ensuring proper property records retention and preservation of files for litigation matters.
  • Database Management: You will manage and maintain accurate and up-to-date real property databases.
Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will require a strong understanding of property and commercial law, as well as applicable legislation, including the Land Registration Act. You will also need to have a working knowledge of land registration systems, municipal, provincial, and federal jurisdictions, and responsibilities pertaining to land.

You should have excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. You will also need to have strong attention to detail and be able to conduct thorough research and analysis.
