We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Payroll Accounting Specialist to join our team in Calgary. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for our employees across Canada.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare comprehensive payroll journal entries for finance on a bi-weekly and monthly basis, reconciling them with the Payroll Summary Register from UKG Pro.
  • Generate accurate payroll accruals for finance reporting.
  • Reconcile direct deposit amounts from UKG Pro to RBC on a bi-weekly and monthly basis, investigating any discrepancies before finalizing transactions.
  • Manage the reconciliation and preparation of wire payments to third-party vendors for premiums related to source deductions, benefits, RRSPs, and Employee Share Purchase Plans. This includes internal chargeback reconciliation between companies for secondment arrangements.
  • Analyze, resolve, and coordinate responses to inquiries from government agencies regarding EHT remittances, provincial and federal source deduction remittances, and any outstanding amounts owed due to company acquisitions related to payroll and benefits.
  • Analyze and validate exception reports related to regular payroll, commissions, and expenses.
  • Prepare year-end source deductions for provincial and federal taxes, as well as any provincial health and education accounts associated with BrokerLink.
  • Prepare the monthly severance file for finance to ensure proper accrual allocation.
  • Create one-time payments, cancellations, and direct deposit changes at Royal Bank for employee payroll deposits requiring adjustments.
  • Support the Payroll Team in financial reporting during month, quarter, and year-end processes, as well as ad hoc requests.
  • Manage accounting related to payroll items for acquisitions.
  • Prepare quarterly vacation accruals for finance.
  • Assist the payroll team in year-end functions related to T4s and reporting.
  • Complete other assigned tasks and ad hoc reporting and accounting projects as required.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or finance (or equivalent experience).
  • Advanced Excel skills are essential.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
