About the Role

MNP LLP is a leading national accounting, tax, and business advisory firm in Canada. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Co-op student to join our Assurance and Accounting team.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop Technical Skills: Gain hands-on experience in areas such as compilations, reviews, audits, bookkeeping, and tax.
  2. Apply Knowledge of Accounting Standards: Develop and apply knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and/or Accounting Standards for Private Enterprise (ASPE).
  3. Client Service: Set-up files for new clients and newly incorporated businesses, manage multiple files simultaneously, and conduct inventory counts.
  4. Financial Analysis: Summarize current financial status by collecting information and preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other relevant reports.
  5. Discrepancy Resolution: Review, investigate, and correct discrepancies and irregularities in financial entries, documents, and reports.
  6. Chart of Accounts: Establish charts of accounts and prepare entries for posting to accounts.
  7. Communication: Prepare correspondence, technical reports, client summaries, and presentations outlining engagement findings, facts, and highlights.
  8. Team Collaboration: Collaborate with client engagement teams and build relationships with client contacts.
  9. Process Improvement: Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes while effectively using MNP internal programs and systems.
  10. Flexibility: Maintain flexibility to travel, as necessary.
Requirements
  1. Education: Working towards a bachelor's degree in commerce or business administration (accounting or finance major is preferred).
  2. CPA Prerequisites: Working towards prerequisites for admission into the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP).
  3. Previous Experience: Previous accounting-related office experience is considered an asset.
  4. Customer Service: Customer service and/or client service experience is considered an asset.
  5. Software Experience: Experience working with accounting and tax software is considered an asset.
