Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified Middle Years Teacher to join our team at the York Region District School Board. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a range of subjects to students in the middle years level.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach a range of subjects to students in the middle years level, including mathematics, language arts, science, and social studies.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that meet the diverse needs of students, including those with special needs.
  • Use universal design and differentiation to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Assess student learning and progress, and use data to inform instruction.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement school-wide initiatives and programs.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure a positive and supportive school community.
Requirements
  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Demonstrated ability to teach the identified subjects at the middle years level
  • Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students
  • Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills
  • Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student feels a sense of belonging
  • Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn
  • Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short-term and long-term in consideration of class composition
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning
  • Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro-active and maintain student dignity
  • Demonstrated use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity
  • Knowledge or experience with alternate education programs
  • Ability to work with students exhibiting moderate to severe behaviour
  • Ability to remain calm and regulated in potentially heightened situations
  • Knowledge or understanding of trauma-informed practice
  • Qualifications or ability to teach other subjects at the middle years level
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a multidisciplinary team with families to enhance and strengthen their skills in supporting their children in the school, home and community
What We Offer
  • Compensation: $2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas
  • $2,947 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
  • Salary as per collective agreement
  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance
