The Lead Medical Planning Specialist is responsible for managing intricate land use planning applications and initiatives within the designated review area. This role ensures that policies, regulations, and technical recommendations are effectively addressed in compliance with relevant legislative frameworks.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering comprehensive management and service for technically complex and politically sensitive files submitted for review.
  • Providing professional planning recommendations and regulatory guidance to staff, clients, and applicants.
  • Fostering a culture of equity and inclusion that values diversity.
  • Supporting onboarding processes and conducting performance evaluations for team members.
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement in training, resources, and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • A university degree in Planning, Environmental Studies, Urban Studies, Geography, or a related discipline.
  • Over 5 years of experience in municipal, environmental, or related planning.
  • Approximately 2 years of progressive managerial or project management experience.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of the Provincial Policy Statement, the Planning Act, and the Conservation Authorities Act, along with a general understanding of relevant technical disciplines such as ecology and engineering.

Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders, while also negotiating project timelines. Proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, MS Teams, and SharePoint is required, with familiarity in Arc GIS and online collaboration tools being an asset.
