Position Overview

The Supervisor, Accounting is a pivotal role within the Corporate Controller division, reporting directly to the Assistant Manager of Financial Reporting. This position is tasked with overseeing financial accounting operations and ensuring compliance with established processes and procedures. The Supervisor leads a dedicated team responsible for supporting various aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting cycles.

In this role, the Supervisor, Accounting is responsible for developing and monitoring workflows to guarantee that all activities are conducted within regulatory guidelines. The position emphasizes the importance of establishing robust controls and maintaining comprehensive documentation that is accessible to team members. Providing direction and support to direct reports is essential to meet service standards and address complex issues that may arise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the creation, maintenance, and supervision of financial systems, including applications, spreadsheets, and databases, ensuring operational processes are effectively managed.
  • Lead testing initiatives during application upgrades and engage in the documentation of business requirements and validation of enhancements.
  • Manage critical operational processes on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, particularly those resulting from corporate system integrations.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of source information from corporate financial systems that interact with ERP and various sub-ledgers.
  • Prepare reconciliations, third-party filings, financial analyses, and reports.
  • Coordinate monthly activities to align with ERP closing deadlines.
  • Review reconciliations and audit requests to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Approve journal entries within the functional area.
  • Support responses for the General Rate Application (GRA) and inquiries from the Public Utilities Board (PUB).
  • Participate in the maintenance and enhancement of source systems.
  • Engage in transitions of source systems as necessary.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide regular feedback to foster employee development.
  • Promote a high-performance culture that aligns with corporate values and best practices.
  • Assist in the implementation of new policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of six years of experience in financial forecasting and budgeting, ideally within an insurance context, including leadership experience.
  • Possession of a recognized accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, or CMA).
  • Completion of an International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) course is advantageous.
  • Strong technical foundation in accounting principles, particularly IFRS.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with financial information systems and software, with a focus on financial reporting.
  • Experience with ERP systems and various source system sub-ledgers is considered beneficial.
