Job Summary

Georgian College is seeking a skilled Building and Grounds Services Worker to join our Facilities Management team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing general building and grounds maintenance, including carpentry, drywall, flooring, ceiling tiles, painting, door and window repairs, and other related tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on building components such as drywall, ceiling tiles, painting, flooring, doors and hardware, and concrete/asphalt work in an institutional/commercial setting.
  • Assemble shelving, coat racks, brackets, pictures, blinds, tracks and other furniture/displays/fixtures as required.
  • Dismantle and install modular office furniture for renovations or office moves or modify the design to meet the needs of the user.
  • Assemble rooms/areas and equipment for events based on the needs as requested by various user groups and return rooms/areas to their original state following the function.
  • Perform winter maintenance functions including all aspects of snow removal and repair grounds due to winter damage.
  • Record cosmetic repairs or other similar repairs required throughout the facility, inside and out.
  • Maintain quality assurance program by inventorying and assessing each area and reviewing exterior of buildings for issues that require repair or cosmetic upgrade.
  • Perform offsite pickups and deliveries and assist other Facilities Management staff in projects and ongoing work as required.
  • Maintain all Facilities Management storage facilities in a safe and organized manner.
Requirements
  • Successfully completed a one-year postsecondary certificate in carpentry, welding, general building service, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years' experience providing general building and grounds repair and maintenance services in an institutional/commercial environment.
  • Front-End Loader Training, Working at Heights Training, Ladder Training, Mechanical Lockout/Tagout, Forklift Safety Training, Chainsaw Training, Elevated Platform Training, Asbestos Training, Mould Awareness Training are considered assets.
  • Experience with quality assurance programs is an asset.
  • Experience operating computerized building control systems.
  • Experience and working knowledge using computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proven analytical and evaluation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Customer service and communication skills (written and oral).
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments at one time and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work non-traditional working hours such as evening and weekends, as required.
  • Ability to travel to other campus locations and/or for pickup and deliveries, as required.
