Brief Description

Reporting to the Senior Tax Director, the Tax Director plays a key role in the execution of tax mandates requiring advanced technical knowledge. Specifically, their duties will include:

Main Responsibilities

Participate in technical tax consulting mandates:

  • Conduct in-depth tax research and provide sound interpretation
  • Draft transactional memoranda to implement tax reorganizations
  • Stay up-to-date on new developments in tax matters
  • Provide support to tax team members assigned to tax mandates
  • Respond to tax queries from departments within the organization, as required
  • Ensure timely completion of tasks

Present follow-ups to the Senior Director responsible for the tax mandate:

  • Regularly review the tax mandate
  • Analyze hours spent on tax files for billing purposes, and highlight any significant discrepancies
  • Explain mandate issues and provide interpretation, as required

Ensure effective customer relationship management:

  • Identify tax needs for potential and existing clients, as required
Required Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate degree in taxation
  • Recognized CPA or lawyer designation

Professional Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years or more of relevant experience in taxation, ideally with a professional firm.

Skills

  • Proficiency in software (Word, Excel, etc.) and tax research tools (CCH Online, Taxfind, Taxnet Pro)
  • Knowledge of tax return software (TaxPrep & DT Max)
  • Fluency in French and English (an asset)
  • Thorough knowledge of the Income Tax Act and the Quebec Taxation Act
